The Ravensworth Arms is all that remains of the old village
once known as Clubdon and stands on the site of what was once Clubdon
Hall, whose last Baron was Henry Augustus Clavering - a direct descendant
from one of the custodians of Magna Carta. Situated in a picturesque
setting yet conveniently just off the A1, The Ravensworth Arms can
boast a wealth of literary connections.
Lewis Carroll is believed to have written part of the immortal
"Alice in Wonderland" here. It also has a long association
with Catherine Cookson, one of Britain's best-loved and most
successful authors.
